It’s important to distinguish rabbits that are raised for pets versus rabbits that are not. Where you choose to purchase your rabbit will also impact the type of rabbit you have access to.
Most rabbit breeds used as pets today come from several varieties of European rabbits. Just like dogs they have become domesticated and many varieties have come through specialized breeding.
There are over 50 different breeds of rabbits recognized by the American Rabbit Breeders Association.
